It is easy to feel pressure to change something or everything about yourself in the run up to the start of a new year and sometimes change is good and necessary not just for life but for personal growth but rather than change because everyone says they are changing.
Sometimes what we perceive as a necessary change is often derided by people who love us as ‘temporary’ at worse you could be seen as a ‘sell out’. Who can forget the furore in 1965/66 when Bob Dylan moved from an acoustic to electric guitar yet from that very change came some of his most seminal works so whether the change is small or large it must be necessary for personal growth and improvement. This doesn’t mean someone should go as far as to change everything by contrast to Bob Dylan one need only look at bands like AC/DC who have never drifted far from the core blues scales or pentatonic scale and yet have produced albums of such quality that generations young and old can pinpoint a song or album that is relevant to them.
The trick with change then is to make the change that best works for you. Following this logic then what change can a person do when it comes to music, perhaps less difficult than a life changing decision, it does present you with an opportunity to expand your musical knowledge perhaps, maybe find a few new artists to follow, Spotify is a real dream for recommending ‘similar artists’ to what we listen to already or maybe go back over old records and songs rediscover past memories and share them with friends and family.
What will 2024 hold for this blog? Who knows like all chances to change there may be a new layout there may be more of the same presented in a different way what is for definite is that it will be another great year for music.
Looking forward to another wonderful year of sharing musical musings with you all!!!!
